Spring is around the corner, which means it’s time for a little Spring cleaning! Maybe you are gearing up to clean out your closet or declutter the house, but don’t forget about your social media pages. Yes, your social media pages need some spring cleaning too! Here are a few tips from our Manager of Social Media, Shelby Wheeler.
- Check that cover photo!
It’s very easy to forget your cover photo and headers. You’ve got enough to worry about with posting good content, answering customers’ questions, etc. that you don’t have the time to design a cover photo. Your cover photo is prime real estate on your social media. Use it to help tell a story of your brand, spread seasonal information, or just keep a fresh look! Just be mindful of how it looks on different devices. - Check your bio and about sections!
You probably set up some great bios and about sections when you created your social media pages, but when is the last time you spent time reviewing the details? Often times details, even minor ones, have been updated since you wrote those sections. Spend some time proofing the information – make sure your hours are right, the details of your business are accurate, and all contact information is correct. In addition, Facebook is always adding new categories in their about sections you don’t want to be missing out on! - Review who has access to your accounts!
Knowing who has access to your social media accounts is so important. You don’t want a disgruntled ex-employee still having access and going rogue. It happens too often! You also don’t want 25 people with admin access posting over each other and not sounding unified. Take some time to review who is an admin in your business accounts and ad accounts. On platforms that are password based, if you haven’t changed your password in a while, now is probably a good time to update it. - Check in on your strategy!
You are a few months into the year now, how’s it going on social media? Take some time and review what you’ve posted – what’s going well, and what hasn’t? You’ve probably tried some new content ideas – are they doing what you thought they would? What do you need to adjust going forward? This is something that should be done often, but when you get into the grind of day-to-day work, sometimes you don’t take a step back and really evaluate where you are. Spring is the perfect time to review your work and adjust for the new season! - Check on your competitors!
If it’s been a while since you’ve checked your competitor’s pages out, take a few minutes and scroll through their pages. See where they are at, what kind of specials they are running, what kind of content they are posting. Don’t get too caught up in the comparison game, but it’s important to know the messages they are sending out to their customers vs. what they are seeing on your page.
